Who We Are

Ghumnajaau Private Limited is a licensed travel and adventure company based in Kathmandu. Since 2013, we have organized treks, cultural tours, adventure holidays and tailor-made journeys across Nepal.

Ghumnajaau was founded by three friends who studied and worked in Nepal's tourism industry, and it is owned and led today by Nir Saru. Whether this is your first visit or your fifth, we plan each trip around your interests, time, and pace.

Our Story: Three Friends, One Shared Journey

Nir Saru, Samde Sherpa and Suresh Ghorasainee met in 2008 while studying Travel and Tourism Management. Alongside their studies, they worked as freelance guides and gained hands-on experience in tour operations and adventure travel. They shared a love of the Himalayas and a belief that locally led travel is better for both visitors and host communities.

Each brought something different. Samde grew up in a family of professional guides and knew mountain culture from the inside. Suresh brought operational experience. Nir had more than three years of experience with travel agencies, trekking companies and hotels, and after completing his MBA he took on strategy and business development.

The three founders, Samde Sherpa, Nir Saru and Suresh Ghorasainee, at Budha Subba Temple near Dharan, February 2013.

Ghumnajaau Today

After 2018, by mutual understanding among the three friends, Nir Saru became the owner of Ghumnajaau and has led the company since as Managing Director. Suresh returned to his family business. Samde remains a supportive partner of the company.

From Reflection Himalayan to Ghumnajaau

  • 2008: The three founders meet as students.
  • 2013: They launch Reflection Himalayan, offering travel, trekking and expedition services.
  • 2015: After the earthquake, they rethink the role tourism can play in connecting people and supporting local livelihoods.
  • 2018: The company is renamed Ghumnajaau, from the Nepali invitation “Let’s travel together.”
  • After 2018: Nir Saru takes over ownership and leadership of the company.

The name is our approach: welcome travellers, share local knowledge, and build journeys around people as well as places. Meet the full Ghumnajaau team in the team section below.

How We Plan Your Journey

We start by listening. Before recommending a trip, we ask about:

  • your travel dates and budget
  • your fitness and experience
  • your accommodation preferences
  • what you most want from Nepal

For treks, we also assess altitude, acclimatisation, daily walking distances and seasonal conditions. You receive a clear itinerary that states what is included and excluded, plus guidance on preparing before you arrive. If weather or trail conditions force a change, we explain your options and adjust the plan wherever possible.

Safety, Preparation & Local Support

Mountain travel means changing weather, high altitude and rough terrain, so we plan carefully and keep you informed.

  • Trained guides: Licensed guides with first-aid training, briefed on altitude sickness.
  • Safe itineraries: Acclimatisation days built in, with the pace adjusted if anyone struggles.
  • Insurance: Travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and emergency evacuation is required for treks above 3,000 m (9,843 ft). See our Nepal travel tips and trekking permits and fees.
  • Emergency plan: Your guide contacts our Kathmandu office, and we arrange help with local partners.
  • Team welfare: Guides and porters are insured and properly equipped.
  • Need help during your trip? Message our operations team on WhatsApp: +977 9851333595 or +977 9802344595.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision: To make locally led, responsible travel a meaningful way to discover Nepal and connect with its landscapes, cultures and communities.

Mission: To plan and deliver well-organised journeys that reflect each traveller's interests, respect Nepal's natural and cultural heritage, and support the people who make these experiences possible.

What We Value

  • Local knowledge: Our guides share the history, traditions and daily life of the places you visit.
  • Honesty: Straightforward advice and clear information about arrangements, costs and expectations.
  • Safety: Every itinerary is matched to the conditions and demands of the journey.
  • Respect: We encourage travellers to follow local customs, reduce waste and treat mountains, heritage sites and communities with care.
  • Partnership: We work with local guides, porters, lodges and transport operators, and value their contribution.
